Grigory Yakerson was born in Leningrad in 1971. Graduated from the Rimsky-Korsakov St Petersburg State Conservatory with degrees in choral conducting (1995, class of Alexander Titov) and solo vocal performance (1997, class of Anatoly Kiselyov).
At the International Tchaikovsky Competition (Moscow – St Petersburg, 2023) he was awarded a diploma as the best accompanist.
Was a baritone soloist and corépétiteur at the Vaasan Ooppera in Finland (1999–2000), a soloist (1997–2015) and the head of the opera company (2008–2015) at the Opera and Ballet Theatre of the St Petersburg Conservatory. Since 2000 he has served as a cantor of the Grand Choral Synagogue of St Petersburg, and since 2005 he has been its Chief Cantor.
In 2015 and again from 2017 to 2022 Grigory Yakerson led the Mariinsky Opera Company, and in 2023 he was appointed its Principal Accompanist.
Has served as the lead accompanist for Mariinsky Theatre productions and concert performances of The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevroniya, I puritani, Falstaff, The Rake’s Progress and Norma. Grigory Yakerson maintains an active concert schedule at the theatre and other venues and has appeared at the Genius of Place festival. In January 2025 he took part in the Mariinsky Theatre’s tour to Oman and Bahrain.
