Born in Volgograd.
Graduated from the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet in 1999.
From 1999–2017 he was a dancer with the Mariinsky Ballet. Performed roles in Konstantin Sergeyev's versions of Marius Petipa's ballets The Sleeping Beauty (Carabosse the Wicked Fairy) and Raymonda (variation), Alexander Gorsky's ballet Don Quixote (Gamache), Leonid Yakobson's productions of Shurale (Shurale) and Spartacus (Etruscans), George Balanchine's ballets Prodigal Son (Friend of the Prodigal), Symphony in C (III. Allegro vivace), Jewels (Rubies), Theme and Variations, The Four Temperaments (Phlegmatic), Piano Concerto No 2 (Ballet Imperial) and Scotch Symphony, William Forsythe's ballets In the Middle, Somewhat Elevated, Approximate Sonata and Steptext, Alexei Ratmansky's ballets The Little Humpbacked Horse (Gypsy Dance), Cinderella (Summer) and Concerto DSCH and Kirill Simonov's ballets Come in!, The Nutcracker (Recruit, Petrouchka, Spanish Dance), Princess Pirlipat, or Worthiness Punished (Spanish Rats' Dance) and Glass Heart (Gardener), as well as appearing in ballets by John Neumeier, Angelin Preljoçaj, Roland Petit, Pierre Lacotte, Alexei Miroshnichenko and Noah D. Gelber.

In 2013 as part of the Mariinsky Theatre’s project A Creative Workshop of Young Choreographers, Anton Pimonov staged the one-act ballet Choreographic Game 3x3 to music by Johann Peter Pixis (Piano Concerto in C Major, 3rd movement), which entered the Mariinsky Theatre's repertoire. The same year at the Leonid Yakobson Ballet Theatre he staged the premiere of two of his one-act ballets – Iberia with music by Claude Debussy and In the Rhythm of Dreams with music by Sergei Prokofiev (Sonata for Violin and Piano). In April 2014 the Mariinsky Theatre staged the premiere of the ballet Inside the Lines to music by Maurice Ravel (Piano Concerto No 1 in G Major). In December 2014 the choreographer presented his first two-act production, Sergei Prokofiev's ballet Romeo and Juliet, at the Leonid Yakobson Ballet Theatre. In March 2015 at the Mariinsky Theatre there came the premiere of the ballets Bambi to music by Andrei Golovin and In the Jungle to music by Alexander Lokshin. In November 2016 for The Theatre Ballet Moscow he staged the production The Moon across the Way to music by John Adams. At the Mariinsky Theatre in July 2016 Anton Pimonov presented Violin Concerto No 2 to music by Sergei Prokofiev and in April 2017 there came The Cat on the Tree to music by Nico Muhly and Teitur Lassen.

Performances for other theatres include Concert Dances (2015) to music by Igor Stravinsky for the Perm State Ballet School, Marimba Dances (2017) to music by Rabinovich-Barakovsky at the Bavarian Ballet, Fiancailles pour rire (2018) to music by Francis Poulenc at the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia.

In 2017–2020 he was Deputy Artistic Director of the Ballet Company of the Yekaterinburg Opera and Ballet Theatre, where he created the ballet Love songs to music by Johannes Brahms in 2018.

Since 2020 he has been Ballet Troupe Head at the Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre, where he staged Concert №5 (2021) to music by Sergei Prokofiev and Chansons Gaillardes (2020) to music by Francis Poulenc.
