Vyacheslav Samodurov graduated from the Vaganova Ballet Academy (class of Gennady Selyutsky). From 1992 to 2001 he danced with the Mariinsky Theatre, performing leading roles in classical ballets as well as works by George Balanchine, Roland Petit, and Alexei Ratmansky. He was a principal dancer with the Dutch National Ballet from 2000 to 2003 and with The Royal Ballet from 2003 to 2010.
He made his choreographic debut in 2006 at the Bolshoi Theatre’s New Choreography Workshop, presenting +/-2 to music by Handel.
From 2011 to 2023 Samodurov served as Artistic Director of Ural Ballet. During his tenure, he staged Amore Buffo, based on Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore, Cantus Arcticus to music by Einojuhani Rautavaara, Salieri Variations to music by Antonio Salieri, Tsvetodelika to music by Tchaikovsky and Arvo Pärt, Curtain to music by Respighi, Romeo and Juliet by Prokofiev (a revised version of his 2014 production for the Royal Ballet of Flanders), The Snow Queen by Vasilyev, The King’s Command by Korolyov, The Little Humpbacked Horse (co-created with Anton Pimonov).
