Born in St Petersburg in 1995, Alexei Aslanov graduated from St Petersburg’s Glinka Choir College (2012) and the Rimsky-Korsakov St Petersburg State Conservatory (Valentin Nesterov’s choral conducting class in 2017 and Alexander Polishchuk’s opera and symphony conducting class in 2018).
He has taken part in masterclasses held by Vassily Sinaisky, Bruno Weil, Dorian Wilson, Teodor Currentzis and Yuri Simonov.
Alexei Aslanov has appeared with the the St Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra Classica, the Safonov Symphony Orchestra of the North-Caucasian State Philharmonic, the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, the St Petersburg Symphony Orchestra, the Tatarstan National Symphony Orchestra, the Symphony orchestras of the Bolshoi theatres of Russia and Belarus, the Russian National Youth Symphony Orchestra.
Made his debut at the Mariinsky Theatre in 2007 as an opera soloist (Miles in The Turn of the Screw); in the 2018–19 season the musician stood at the helm of the Mariinsky Orchestra for the first time, and from that same season he worked as a conductor trainee, currently he serves as a guest conductor of the orchestra.
Alexei Aslanov was Artistic Director of the Sochi Symphony Orchestra during 2020–2023 and also its General Director from 2021 to 2023, holding a number of significant concert events. Has taken part in Denis Matsuev’s Crescendo festival. Since 2022 he has been the artistic director, conductor, ideological inspirer and one of the organisers of major festivals and other projects that are carried out in Sochi with the support of the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives and the Alexei Aslanov Charitable Foundation.
In 2022 the artist organised and headed the 1st Sochi Classical Music Festival, where, on a stage built in the mountains, the public heard Carmina Burana and saw the premiere of a new production of Carmen, and also attended numerous concerts. In the same year the Opera Classics in Sochi festival was held: during the year the Winter Theatre presented – in concert and semi-stage performances – Eugene Onegin, La traviata, Tannhäuser, Tosca, Pagliacci, Cavalleria rusticana and Christmas Eve.
Since 2023 the major events have included the Rosa Khutor. Classics festival in Sochi. In the mountains, at an altitude of 560 and 1,050 metres, a residence of classical art is presented. The main events of the festival were the premieres of new productions of Turandot and The Tsar’s Bride on an open-air stage.
Since 2024 Alexei Aslanov has been a guest conductor at the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia, where he made his debut at the Historical Stage, leading a performance of the opera Adriana Lecouvreur.
