Vladimir Lande


Conductor

Vladimir Lande was born in 1962 in Leningrad. In 1986 he graduated from the Rimsky-Korsakov Leningrad State Conservatory as an oboist and pianist. From 1984 to 1989 the artist worked as Principal Oboe of the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1985 he began to take conducting lessons from Ilya Musin and four years later moved to the USA. From 2008 to 2017 he was Principal Guest Conductor of the St Petersburg State Academic Symphony Orchestra. In 2011 Vladimir Lande went on a grand tour around the USA, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Peru, Chile and Uruguay. In 2014 he toured with the ensemble to South Korea, and one year later – to the USA. Also appeared in Australia, New Zealand and Europe.

Was Principal Guest Conductor of New York’s Bachanalia Chamber Orchestra and a conductor of the Hopkins Symphony Chamber Orchestra (Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore) as well as Music Director and Conductor of the Washington Soloists Chamber Orchestra, a guest conductor of the National Gallery Orchestra in Washington, Music Director of the COSMIC Symphony (town of California, State of Maryland), Music Director and Conductor of the Festival of Contemporary Art Music in Washington. In 2015–2016 he was Artistic Director of the Krasnoyarsk International Music Festival of the Asia-Pacific Region. Currently Vladimir Lande is Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Siberian State Symphony Orchestra (Krasnoyarsk; since 2015).

Also performed with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra (Oklahoma), the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra (Florida), the Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra, the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional (Argentina), the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional del Perú, the Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma, as well as such soloists as Vadim Repin, Hilary Hahn, Olga Kern, Dmitry Kouzov, Xiayin Wang, Peter Laul, Maxim Mogilevsky, Pavel Milyukov, Nikolai Lugansky, Eldar Nebolsin, Tianwa Yang, Gary Louie, Eugene Ugorski, Alexander Knyazev, Andrei Gavrilov, Otto Sauter and Denis Matsuev. He conducted at the performance of the mono-opera Concerto for the Chef and Orchestra by Mikhail Krutik and worked on the project The Fragrance of Sound in collaboration with the leading French perfumers.

Collaborates with the recording companies Brilliant Classics, Delos, Naxos, Marquis Classics, Navona, Parma and Melodiya. His discography includes symphonies by Schubert and Weinberg, cello concerti by Shostakovich, Violin Concerto and other works by Alicia Terzian, pieces by Yves Ramette, Brian Noyes, Ottorino Respighi and Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, as well as by contemporary American composers Arthur Gottschalk, Sean Hickey and James Aikman.

Recipient of the French music award Clef d’Or ResMusica (2013) for the best performance of Weinberg’s symphonic heritage. In 2017 a disc featuring Weinberg’s Seventeenth Symphony (Memory) and Suite for Orchestra, recorded by the Siberian State Symphony Orchestra under Vladimir Lande for the Naxos label in 2016, was included in the Quarterly Critic’s Choice list of the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik.
