Conductor

Anton Sharoev graduated from the Moscow Conservatory and completed his post-graduate studies there (class of Abram Yampolsky). Being a student in his third year, he won the prize at the International Violin Competition in Prague. At the beginning of his career, he was a member of the Tchaikovsky State Quartet where he played with Julian Sitkovetsky, Rudolf Barshai, Yakov Slobodkin and cooperated with Dmitry Shostakovich, Svyatoslav Richter and Mstislav Rostropovich.

In the 1960s, he started his conductor career perfecting his art under Natan Rakhlin, Igor Markevitch and Nikolay Anosov. As a conductor he became a laureate at the III Biennale of Modern Music in Berlin. Anton Sharoev was founder and first conductor of the Kyiv Chamber Orchestra, later he also founded Moscow Orchestra of Chamber Music, the Young Virtuosi of Russia orchesra. Since 1998 he has been artistic director and conductor of the Camerata Siberia orchestra. He combines his conducting activities with performing, playing violin and viola with the Camerata Siberia orchestra and with the Barocco ensemble.

Conductor’s repertoire includes more than one hundred programs, including The Art of Fugue and Musical Offering by Bach, different works by Corelli, Handel, Vivaldi, Telemann, Rameau, Couperin, Haydn, Salieri, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Stravinsky, Ravel, Milhaud, Honegger, Bartok, Britten, Bortniansky, Glinka, Rubinstein, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Taneyev, Grechaninov, Shostakovich, Sviridov, Shchedrin, Schnittke, Silvestrov, Stankovych, Strauss, Gershwin, Piazzolla and others. Featuring the Choir Capella of the Tyumen Philharmonia are performed cantatas and oratorios as well as stage works, including rare Russian operas of the 18th century: Bortniansky’s Alcide, Pashkevich’s The Saint Petersburg Gostiny Dvor, Fomin’s melodrama Orpheus. Sharoev discovered the full score of Rubinstein’s sacred opera Christus considered lost. This opera under his direction was first performed in 2008 in Perm and then in Tyumen, Moscow, St Petersburg, Riga, Tallinn, and Berlin. In 2018 Christus was performed at the Mariinsky Concert Hall.

In 1986 he was awarded the title of Honored Art Worker of Ukraine, in 2005 Honored Art Worker of Russia. In 2010 he was awarded Order of Friendship, in 2016 the Philotheus Leszczynski Gold Medal, in 2017 the Russian Federation Presidential Certificate of Honour.
