Maria Danilova


Costume Designer

Graduated from the Moscow State Surikov Academic Art Institute (workshop of Mikhail Kurilko) with the Gold Medal of the Academy of Arts. Has created costumes for productions at the Chekhov MKhAT, the Vakhtangov Theatre, Pyotr Fomenko's Workshop, the Lenkom theatre, the Satirikon theatre and the Comédie-Française. Has worked on productions by the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia (The Gambler, The Snow Maiden, Eugene Onegin, Prince Igor and Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk), the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Musical Theatre (Die Fledermaus, Don Giovanni, Khovanshchina, The Queen of Spades, Oedipus Rex and Bluebeard's Castle), Moscow's Novaya Opera theatre (La traviata, I pagliacci and Cavalleria rusticana), the Prague National Opera (The Queen of Spades) and the Mikhailovsky Theatre (Der Fliegende Holländer) among others. As a costume designer at the Mariinsky Theatre she has worked on productions of The Nose (directed by Yuri Alexandrov), Jenůfa, Otello, The Brothers Karamazov, Les Contes d'Hoffmann, Dead Souls and Rusalka (directed by Vasily Barkhatov).

Recipient of the State Prize (2001), recipient of the Golden Mask award for her costumes for Dmitry Chernyakov's production of Eugene Onegin at the Bolshoi Theatre (2008) and for her costumes for Rimas Tuminas' production of Eugene Onegin at the Vakhtangov Theatre (2014) and recipient of the Stanislavsky Prize (1997), the Seagull award (2001) and the Oleg Tabakov Prize (1996).
