Over the course of his career he has designed over sixty productions for West End theatres, among which twenty are musicals. Productions include Henry IV with Richard Harris, Bus Stop with Jerry Hall and Shaun Cassidy, Chapter Two with Tom Conti and Sharon Gless, Someone Like You, Brief Lives, Killing Jessica, Richard II and Hadrian VII. Together with Cameron Mackintosh he has worked on productions of Oklahoma, My Fair Lady, The Card, The Little Shop of Horrors, Blondel, Cafe Puccini and Five Guys Named Мое. He has designed for the Chichester Theatre Festival, the Royal Shakespeare Company and the New Shakespeare Company. In 1988 he designed the first Anglo-Soviet production of Swan Lake for the Moscow Classical Ballet, which has been performed in London, the USA, Japan and Russia.
Tim Goodchild’s productions in other countries include Euripides’ The Bacchae (the Netherlands), My Fair Lady, Tomfoolery (Norway), Antony and Cleopatra (Egyptian National Theatre, Cairo), Peter Pan (McNab Theatre, Canada), Cyrano de Bergerac (Stratford Festival, Ontario, Canada) and Gigi (Volksoper, Vienna).
Works in opera include La traviata (Danish National Opera and Welsh National Opera), Die Fledermaus and La Vie parisienne (English National Opera), The Mikado (Sidney Opera House, Australia), HMS Pinafore, The Gondoliers and The Mikado (Sadler’s Wells, UK), Les Contes d’Hoffmann (Victoria State Opera and Houston Opera), Così fan tutte (Garsington Opera) and Mephistopheles (English National Opera). For his designs for Les Contes d’Hoffmann in Australia he received the Green Room Award. Nominee for the Ovations Award for best designs for Five Guys Named Мое (Los Angeles Opera) and the Sammy Award for best TV film design (Fool on the Hill).
