Leonid Alexeev


Set and Costume Designer

After graduating from Central Saint Martins in London, Leonid initiated his design career in 2004. An established figure in St Petersburg’s and Moscow’s fashion weeks, showcasing his personal brand collections, he was honoured with the “Designer of the Year” accolade by the GQ magazine in 2009. His past involvements include the Russian edition of the Runway project as an expert in 2011 and as a special guest designer at the 2013 AltaRoma couture week in Rome and the Copenhagen Fashion Week. His collaborations span across renowned entities like FOSP, FC Zenit, RZD, FC Dynamo and Gazprom Neft.

Alexeev is the production designer for the ballets The Twelve (2022) and Coppélia (2024) at the Mariinsky Theatre, as well as the Stravinsky ballet programme Concert Dances. Card Game. Pulcinella (2023) at the Rostov Musical Theatre. His costume design portfolio boasts of plays like The Pickwick Club (2009) at the Moscow Art Theatre, Great Magic (2012) and The Marriage of Figaro (2014) at the Moscow Pushkin Drama Theatre, Schwartz: Untold Tales (2021) at the Moscow Art Theatre School-Studio and The Love of d’Artagnan (2024) at the Nizhny Novgorod Opera and Ballet Theatre. Leonid’s flair is also evident in the dance show for the Qatar National Day (2018, 2019) and the production Hip Hoppera: Orpheus & Eurydice (2018). As an art director he has an impressive repertoire of stage shows and concerts. He currently curates the fashion direction at the Art and Design School at the National Research University Higher School of Economics and has penned master’s courses like “Fashion Brand Creation” and “Contemporary Clothing Design”.
