Dimitris Botinis was born in Moscow in 1986 to the family of conductor Dimitris Botinis Sr. At the age of five he began to play the violin, followed by the viola and guitar. In 2006 Botinis graduated from the Municipal Conservatory of Patras in Greece (violin class). Under Yuri Simonov he studied conducting, initially taking masterclasses in Hungary and subsequently at the Rimsky-Korsakov St Petersburg State Conservatory from which he graduated with distinction in 2011.
In 2006 Dimitris Botinis won 1st and all special prizes at the Antonio Pedrotti International Conducting Competition in Trento (Italy). In 2010 he made his debut as an opera conductor at the Opera and Ballet Theatre of the St Petersburg Conservatory (Iolanta). In 2011 he won 1st prize at the All-Russian Music Competition in Moscow.
From 2011 to 2021 Dimitris Botinis was Assistant Principal Conductor of the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, since 2021 he has been its Conductor. In 2012 he began to appear with the Mariinsky Orchestra and to work with the St Petersburg Music House. From 2015 to 2022 the artist was Principal Conductor of the Safonov Academic Symphony Orchestra of the North-Caucasian State Philharmonic named after V.I. Safonov, since 2022 he has been its Principal Guest Conductor as well as Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra.
Has collaborated with such ensembles as the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia (Svetlanov Symphony Orchestra), the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra, the Russian National Orchestra, the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia, the Novaya Rossiya State Symphony Orchestra, the St Petersburg State Capella Symphony Orchestra, orchestras of the St Petersburg Philharmonia, the St Petersburg State Academic Symphony Orchestra, the State Hermitage Orchestra, the Croatian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra Haydn (Bolzano, Italy), the Athens State Orchestra, the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra of the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation, the Orchestra of Patras and the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra among others. In the autumn of 2018 Dimitris Botinis became the first conductor to take the stand of the Russian National Youth Symphony Orchestra, with which he gave several concerts in Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod and towns and cities in Siberia. Has toured to Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, Estonia, South Korea, Greece and Cyprus.
Has taken part in the festivals Musical Olympus (2011–2016), Stars on Baikal (2019) and the Patras International Festival (2010–2011). In November 2014 he conducted the first (“test”) symphony concert at the Rachmaninoff Concert Hall (Philharmonia-2), while in January 2017 he conducted the orchestra at the hall’s official grand opening, at which Denis Matsuev performed Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto.
In 2017, following a commission from Bayerische Rundfunk, Botinis recorded various works by Russian composers together with the Bamberger Symphoniker.
In 2021 he was awarded Russia’s 2020 Presidential Prize for Young Culture Professionals for his contribution to the establishment of traditions in the Russian musical art and education.
