Conductor

Andrey Ivanov was born in Minsk in 1981. Graduated from Minsk’s Belarusian State Academy of Music with degrees in choral conducting (2004) and opera and symphony conducting (2008). In 2011 he completed an internship under the guidance of Valery Gergiev at the Mariinsky Theatre.

Served as a conductor with Minsk’s Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus (2008–2017), as Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of the Belarusian State Academy of Music (2012–2017) and as Principal Conductor of the Rostov State Musical Theatre (2017–2023).

As a conductor, Andrey Ivanov has staged productions of Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia, Gounod’s Faust, Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci, Puccini’s Turandot, Poulenc’s La Voix humaine, Musorgsky’s Khovanshchina, Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Tsar’s Bride, Rachmaninoff’s Francesca da Rimini and Vladimir Soltan’s King Stakh’s Wild Hunt as well as the ballets: Minkus’ La Bayadère, Pugni’s Esmeralda, Delibes’ Coppélia, Prokofiev’s Cinderella and Khachaturian’s Spartacus among others.

In 2024 he assisted to Valery Gergiev during the preparation of Rossini’s La Cenerentola. At the Mariinsky Theatre he has also conducted performances of productions of La traviata, Lakmé, Le nozze di Figaro, Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, L’italiana in Algeri, Norma, The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Don Quixote and Giselle as well as concert performances of Guillaume Tell and La Gioconda.

His repertoire includes over seventy opera and ballet titles and a wide range of symphonic works. Andrey Ivanov has performed in Spain, Portugal, Italy, France, Switzerland, Poland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Estonia, Latvia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and beyond. He has appeared at the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia, the Kolobov Novaya Opera Theatre of Moscow, the Moscow State Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre, Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu, L’Auditori and the Palau de la Música Catalana, Madrid’s Auditorio Nacional de Música, Geneva’s Victoria Hall, Rome’s Parco della Musica and Auditorium of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Genoa’s Teatro Carlo Felice, Stockholm’s Berwaldhallen, the Gothenburg Concert Hall and many other venues.

In 2021 he was awarded a Gold Diploma at the 12th International Slavic Music Forum Golden Knight (Moscow) for his production of Khovanshchina.
