Vincent Lucas


Flute

Vincent Lucas was born in 1967. Began studying the transverse flute at the age of eight at the Conservatoire à rayonnement régional de Clermont-Ferrand. In 1981 he enrolled into the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris.

In 1984 Vincent Lucas became the first French prize-winner at the Concertino Praga competition.

From 1984 to 1989 he was a flutist with the Orchestre National Capitole Toulouse, and during 1989–1995 – the 2nd flutist and the solo piccolo with the Berliner Philharmoniker. Since 1994 Vincent Lucas has been a principal flute of the Orchestre de Paris.
Has performed at the Mariinsky Theatre, the St Petersburg Music House, the Musikverein Wien, New York’s Carnegie Hall, London’s Royal Albert Hall, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw and Tokyo’s Suntory Hall among other venues. He is very much appreciated for his chamber-music activities with many musicians such as Christoph Eschenbach, Marie-Pierre Langlamet, Christian Ivaldi, Eric Le Sage, Michel Beroff, Brigitte Engerer, Xavier Phillips, Svetlin Roussev and Radek Baborák.

Since 1995 Vincent Lucas has been an assistant professor at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris, and since 1999 – a professor at the Conservatoire à rayonnement régional de Paris. He also teaches at the Académie internationale d’été de Nice and gives masterclasses in France, Germany, Great Britain, Denmark, Serbia, Italy, Japan, China, the USA and Russia. The artist is Professor Emeritus at the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo.

In 2007 Vincent Lucas participated in the recording of the album Henri Dutilleux. Pages de jeunesse (“Henri Dutilleux. Youthful Pages”), where he performed the Sonatina for flute and piano. Has released several discs with works by Saint-Saëns, Poulenc, Debussy, Françaix and Enescu.
