Svetlana Berezhnaya graduated from the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music in piano and from the Zhiganov Kazan State Conservatoire, also completing a post-graduate study in organ and harpsichord. Trained as an organist at Brabants Conservatorium (Tilburg, Netherlands). In 1996 she took 1st prize at the All-Russian Open Organ Competition (Kislovodsk).
Has appeared at the Grand and Small halls of the Moscow Conservatory, the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre, the Grand Hall of the St Petersburg Philharmonia, the Smetana Hall in Prague, the St Petersburg State Capella and cathedrals in Paris, Vienna, Brussels, Freiburg, New York and Graz among other cities.
Has recorded twenty-four albums, including sixteen CDs on the Kondrashin Classical Recordings label. The year 2008 saw the release of Berezhnaya’s disc Serene (Quartz Music; works by Bach, Brahms, Franck, Giulio Caccini, François Couperin and others), in 2013 came a disc recorded at Notre-Dame de Paris during a concert marking the cathedral’s eight hundred and fiftieth anniversary, while in 2015 came a disc together with the Menestreli early music ensemble – Marking 350 Years of Johann Sebastian Bach.
Regularly appears with such ensembles as the St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the State Hermitage Orchestra, the Amadeus chamber orchestra, the Krasnodar Chamber Orchestra, the Governor’s Chamber Choir Russian Partes, has collaborated with the Schwarzwald Kammerorchester (Sankt Georgen im Schwarzwald, Germany) and the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. Berezhnaya’s stage partners include Sergei Roldugin, Denis Matsuev, Maxim Fedotov, Andrei Diev, Alexander Trostyansky, Graf Murja, Polina Osetinskaya, Mikhail Petukhov, Victor Yampolsky, Mikhail Lidsky, Alexander Chernushenko, Vasily Petrenko, Thomas Straus and Fabio Mastrangelo.
Currently she is Artistic Director, Titular Organist and a pianist of the North-Caucasian State Philharmonic named after V.I. Safonov. Berezhnaya initiated the installation of organs at the North-Caucasian Philharmonic’s halls in Kislovodsk and Yessentuki, as well as the foundation of the Philharmonic Choir named after V.I. Safonov.
Regularly toured to countries in Europe, America and Asia.
