Born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in 1990, Behzod Abduraimov began to play the piano at the age of five as a pupil of Tamara Popovich at the Uspensky State Central Lyceum in Tashkent. He is an alumnus of the International Center for Music at Park University where he studied with Stanislav Ioudenitch, and since 2014 serves as the ICM’s Artist in Residence.
Prize-winner at the London International Piano Competition (2009; 1st prize).
Behzod Abduraimov has worked with leading orchestras worldwide, such as the Mariinsky Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the hr-Sinfonieorchester, the San Francisco Symphony, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, the Czech Philharmonic, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre de Paris, the Orchestre National de Lyon, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra among others, and prestigious conductors including Valery Gergiev, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Manfred Honeck, Vasily Petrenko, James Gaffigan, Jakub Hrůša, Gustavo Dudamel, Lorenzo Viotti and Vladimir Jurowski.
He has appeared at the Aspen Music Festival, the Verbier Festival, the Rheingau Musik Festival, the Festival International de Piano de La Roque-d’Anthéron, the Festival de Lucerne, the Ravinia Festival and the Bravo! Vail Music Festival. In recital Behzod Abduraimov has appeared a number of times at Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium, the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London and Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw.
In 2012 he released his debut album for Decca Classics, a recording of Prokofiev’s Piano Sonata No. 6 and other works by Prokofiev, Liszt and Saint-Saëns; the album won the Choc de Classica and the Diapason Découverte. His second album for Decca Classics, a recording of Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3 and Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI conducted by Juraj Valčuha, was released in 2014.
