Simon Bürki


Piano

Simon Bürki was born in 2000 in Sankt Gallen, Switzerland. From 2005 to 2014 he studied piano with Rada Zagorskaya at a music school in Kyiv, and during 2011–2018 he regularly participated in masterclasses led by Professor Borys Fedorov of the National Music Academy of Ukraine. From 2015 to 2018 Simon Bürki continued his training at the Central Music School of the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory under Vadim Rudenko and Valery Pyasetsky, later joining the class of Farida Nurizade. During 2018–2020 he studied at the conservatory itself under Andrey Pisarev. Since 2020 Simon Bürki has been a student of Sergei Babayan at the Juilliard School in New York.

Laureate of the International Competition for Young Pianists in memory of Vladimir Horowitz (Kyiv, 2011; 1st prize in the Category A, 2nd prize in the Category B, 3rd prize in the Category D), the International FRANZ LISZT Competition for Young Pianists (Weimar, 2017; 1st prize and four special prizes including for the best performance of a Baroque work), the International Competition of Young Pianists Step to Mastery (St Petersburg, 2017; 1st prize), the International Piano Competition Ricard Viñes (Lleida, Spain, 2017; 2nd prize), the Kyiv International Piano Competition (2017; 3rd prize), the International Competition Piano Val-de-Travers (Switzerland, 2018; 2nd prize) and the Singapore International Piano Competition (2019; 4th prize) among others.

He has performed in Switzerland, Germany, Russia, Ukraine, Spain, Italy, France and Austria. Has appeared at the Chamber Hall of the Moscow Philharmonic Society, the Grand Hall of the St Petersburg Philharmonia, the GES-2 House of Culture in Moscow, Villa Senar (Rachmaninoff’s villa in the Canton of Lucerne), the Ehrbar Hall in Vienna and many other venues.

In 2023 Simon Bürki released his debut album Reminiscence, featuring works by Rachmaninoff, Scriabin, Tchaikovsky, Liszt and Schumann.
