Alexander Kashpurin was born in the city of Volzhsky (Volgograd Region) in 1996. In 2019 he graduated with distinction from the Rimsky-Korsakov St Petersburg State Conservatory (class of Tatiana Zagorovskaya), in 2021 completing with distinction an assistant traineeship there (under the same teacher); in 2025 he received the second higher education there, specialising in opera and symphony conducting (class of Vladimir Altschuler). Has taken part in masterclasses conducted by Willem Brons, Gottlieb Wallisch, Dmitri Bashkirov, Alexandra Türk, Mikhail Voskresensky, Hatto Beyerle, Alexander Sandler, Tamás Vásáry, Cyprien Katsaris, Daniel Pollack and Miroslav Kultyshev.
Prize-winner at the Stockholm International Music Competition (2010; Grand Prix), the Perpetuum Mobile International Music Competition (Hilversum, Netherlands, 2011; 1st prize), the Modern Classic International Competition for Young Pianists (Riga, Latvia, 2012; 1st prize), the Chopin Golden Ring International Competition for Young Pianists (Radovljica, Slovenia, 2013; 1st prize and special prizes), the Maria Yudina International Competition for Pianists, Piano Duets and Chamber Music Ensembles (St Petersburg: in 2013 as part of a duet (2nd prize), in 2015 and 2016 as part of a trio (1st prize)), the Benditsky All-Russian Open Piano Competition (Saratov, 2017; Grand Prix), the Jāzeps Vītols International Piano Competition (Riga – Liepāja, Latvia, 2017; Grand Prix), the International M.K. Čiurlionis Piano and Organ Competition (Vilnius, Lithuania, 2019; 1st prize and two special prizes), the International Piano Competition of Russian Music (Ryazan, 2019; 1st prize and three special prizes), the Hauts-de-France International Piano Competition Les Étoiles du Piano (Roubaix, 2021; 1st prize). Recipient of the Young Talents prize (2010–2013) and the Teachers Who Give Hope prize (for 2020) from the City of St Petersburg Government. Two-time winner of the All-Russian Competition Young Talents of Russia (Moscow).
Has appeared as a soloist in Great Britain, France, Hungary, the Netherlands, Belgium, China, Bulgaria, Poland, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, Mongolia, Morocco, Azerbaijan, Lithuania, Latvia, Greece, Slovenia, Tanzania, Kazakhstan and Belarus. Has played at the Grand and Small halls of the St Petersburg Philharmonia, at the Mariinsky Theatre and the St Petersburg State Capella among numerous other venues. Has collaborated with such conductors as Valery Gergiev, Kristjan Järvi, Gintaras Rinkevičius, Atvars Lakstīgala, Zaurbek Gugkaev, Vladimir Altschuler, Alexander Titov, Maxim Fedotov, Yury Lebedev, Georgy Albegov, Alexander Kantorov and Anatoly Rybalko among others.
Musical Director of the St Petersburg Non-state Theatre Replica. Author of an arrangement of Tchaikovsky’s opera Cherevichki.
Founder (2022) and head of the Infinitum Chamber Orchestra.
Member of the Interregional Union of Concert Workers. Since 2021 he is a member of the Frédéric Chopin Society for Musical Enlightenment (St Petersburg).
Has participated in programmes of the St Petersburg Music House since 2013.
Since 2021 he has been an Associate Artist in Residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel (Waterloo, Belgium).
Alexander Kashpurin taught at St Petersburg Musical Lyceum. Since 2021 he has taught (now as an associate professor) at the Department of Special Piano at the St Petersburg Conservatory.
In 2022 the musician released his debut album In Search of Eternity, performing both as pianist and conductor. This disc features works by Liszt, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky–Pletnev, Rachmaninoff and Samuel Barber.
