Valentin Malinin was born in 2001 in Nizhny Novgorod. In 2020 he graduated from the Central Music School of the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory (class of Mira Marchenko), and in 2025 – the conservatory itself (class of Ksenia Knorre; was awarded the title of “Best Graduate of the Year”). During 2020–2021 Valentin also studied at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin. In addition, he took lessons from Mikhail Pletnev, Boris Bloch, Kirill Gerstein, Stanislav Ioudenitch, Pavel Nersessian and Tatiana Zelikman.
Laureate of the Vladimir Krainev Moscow International Piano Competition (2019; Grand Prix), the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition (Bolzano, Italy, 2019; 5th prize, special prize for the best performance of a contemporary piano work and Youth Jury Prize), the International Piano Competition A. Scriabin (Grosseto, Italy, 2023; 1st prize) and the French Riviera Masters contest (Nice, 2025; Grand Prix). At the XVII International Tchaikovsky Competition (Moscow – St Petersburg, 2023) he received 2nd prize and a Silver Medal, and at the Concours Géza Anda (Zürich, 2024) – a Hortense Anda Bursary.
Participant in the Rheingau Musik Festival (Germany), the Festival de Piano Rafael Orozco (Cordova, Spain), the Stars on Baikal festival (Irkutsk) and the Mariinsky International Piano Festival among others.
Collaborates with the Mariinsky Orchestra, the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia (Svetlanov Symphony Orchestra) and the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia; has performed with many famous conductors such as Valery Gergiev, Vladimir Spivakov, Alexander Skulsky, Ilmar Lapiņš and Manuel Valdivieso. He toured to Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy, France, Switzerland, Georgia, Lithuania and Estonia.
Along with his concert activities, Valentin Malinin has been composing since the age of eight under the guidance of Karina Baras, a member of the Union of Composers of Russia. He is a laureate of the International Competition of Composers and Arrangers named after I.O. Dunayevsky (Moscow, 2020; 2nd prize) and the All-Russian Composer Competition of the School-Studio of Contemporary Art (Saratov, 2023; Grand Prix for the cycle for violin and piano Remembering a Breath at Dusk) as well as a finalist of the Competition for Young Composers in memory of Alfred Schnittke and Sviatoslav Richter at the Winter International Arts Festival in Sochi (2022).
In December 2022, in collaboration with the Naxos label, the pianist released a disc with works by Shostakovich, Prokofiev, Scriabin and Enrique Granados, which also included his own piano fantasy The Pearl Fishers based on the theme of Nadir’s romance from Bizet’s opera Les Pêcheurs de perles.
