
Sean Yu began taking piano lessons at the age of five, and just a year later he performed at New York’s Carnegie Hall.
Graduated from Deerfield Academy, Massachusetts, where he won the Samuel M. Stone Jr. Music Prize; subsequently the artist studied at the Precollege Division of the Manhattan School of Music as a Rita and Morris Relson scholar. Thereafter he received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Boston’s New England Conservatory (class of Meng-Chieh Liu) and later graduated from the Yale School of Music in New Haven, Connecticut (class of Melvin Chen).
Sean Yu has performed – both as a soloist and in chamber ensembles – in New York, Boston, Seoul, Hong Kong and other cities around the world, playing at the Morse Recital Hall (Yale School of Music), the Jordan and Williams halls (New England Conservatory), New York’s Klavierhaus and the Seoul Arts Center among other venues.
He has given private lessons since 2019. In addition, he teaches at the Yale School of Music.
