Nigel Levings has lit over four hundred productions including one hundred and fourteen operas and twenty-one musicals. Collaborates with the world’s leading musical and drama theatres. Credits include: The Demon for the Bregenz Festival and the Zurich Opera, The King and I on Broadway and London’s West End (winner of the Outstanding Lighting Design at the Outer Circle Critics Awards, nominee for Drama Desk and Tony Awards for Best Lighting Design), Simon Boccanegra for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Washington Opera, Dallas Opera and Houston Grand Opera, Billy Budd for Welsh National Opera, Opera Australia and Canadian Opera, La bohème for the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg, Falstaff under Sir John Eliot Gardiner at Théâtre du Châtelet, Orfeo for the Deutsche Staatsoper in Berlin, The Queen of Spades for the Dallas Opera Il barbiere di Siviglia, Don Giovanni and Turandot for Houston Grand Opera, Roméo et Juliette for Los Angeles Opera and the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Din Carlo for Welsh National Opera and Sir John in Love for English National Opera.
Recent works include A Streetcar Named Desire for Opera Australia and Love of the Nightingale for West Australian Opera and Der Fliegende Holländer for the Baden-Baden Festspielhaus.
His lighting for the Baz Luhrmann production of La bohème on Broadway won the 2003 Outer Circle Critics Award, the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Lighting Design and the Tony Award for Best Lighting Design.
