Anatoly Lyapin


Lighting designer

Anatoly Lyapin graduated in 2021 from St Petersburg’s Russian State Institute of Performing Arts (class of Yevgeny Ganzburg) with a degree in stage lighting design and technology.

Since 2012 he has created lighting designs for more than one hundred productions, concerts and exhibition spaces, working with drama, musical and puppet theatres as well as non-theatrical venues in St Petersburg, Moscow, Penza, Perm, Kurgan, Vladikavkaz and Kirov. Has also adapted lighting designs for touring productions of various theatre companies in Russia, Estonia, China and Romania.

Since 2022 Anatoly Lyapin has served as a lighting engineer and designer with the Mariinsky Theatre’s Stage Lighting Department.
He has designed lighting scores for the ballet Round Dances and the opera La Gioconda at Mariinsky II, for the operas A Life for the Tsar, La fanciulla del West, War and Peace, Idomeneo, rè di Creta, Falstaff, La bohème and The Golden Cockerel at the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre, and for the opera The Snow Queen and the ballets Le Comte de Monte-Cristo, Alice in Wonderland, The Picture of Dorian Gray and Perfume: The Story of a Love at the theatre’s Branch in the Republic of North Ossetia–Alania.

In 2019 together with Vasily Kovalyov Anatoly Lyapin received the Russian National Theatre Award Arlekin for the lighting design of the production Gerda’s Room (Yana Tumina Theatre Laboratory and Osobnyak Theatre, St Petersburg, 2018). In 2023 he was nominated for Russia’s Golden Mask National Theatre Award for Olga Tsvetkova’s dance performance Soulwhirl, created at St Petersburg’s Dom Radio (House of Radio) in 2022.
