Yevgeny Ulanov

• Prize-winner of the International Vocal Competition in Belarus (1999)
• Recipient of the Golden Sofit, St Petersburg’s most prestigious theatre prize, for the role of Golaud in Claude Debussy's opera Pelléas et Mélisande (“Best Male Role in Opera” category, 2012)

• Nominee for Lithuania’s most prestigious theatre prize Golden Stage Cross for his performance of the role of Golaud in the opera Pelléas et Mélisande at the Vilnius City Opera (2015)

Yevgeny Ulanov was born in Tashkent (Uzbekistan). In 1991 he graduated as an opera singer from the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music (class of Professor Arthur Eisen). In 2020 he received his diploma as a stage director of musical theatre at the Russian State Institute of Stage Arts (class of Alexander Petrov, People's Artist of Russia).

Trained in Italy in 1989 under Professor Alfredo Mariotti. From 1990-92 he participated in festivals and concerts as part of the New Names programme. Soloist with the St Petersburg Chamber Opera Company from 1994. Since 1997, he has collaborated with the St Petersburg Chamber Chorus, directed by Nikolai Kornev.

In 1999 he made his debut at the Mariinsky Theatre in the title role in Mozart's opera Don Giovanni. In 2000 he joined the Mariinsky Opera.

The singer's repertoire also includes the roles of Eugene Onegin (Eugene Onegin), Prince Yeletsky (The Queen of Spades), Andrei Shchelkalov (Boris Godunov), Amonasro (Aida) and the baritone roles in oratorios by Bach, Handel and Donizetti.

Yevgeny Ulanov sang in the Russian premieres of Donizetti’s Messa di Requiem and Handel’s oratorio Brockes Passion. He has toured with the Mariinsky Opera to Baden-Baden, Berlin, Brussels, Vienna, London, Cardiff, Madrid, Rotterdam, Paris, Turin, Melbourne, Astana, Muscat and cities throughout Japan.

He has given concerts in Moscow, Paris and Vienna and in towns and cities in Finland, the USA, Denmark, Sweden and Italy. In 2006 he toured The Netherlands, appearing as Don Giovanni in Mozart’s opera of the same name.
