Mairam Sokolova (Ustian) graduated from Irkutsk State University and subsequently the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory (class of Zurab Sotkilava). Has taken part in masterclasses given by Elena Obraztsova, Irina Bogacheva, Makvala Kasrashvili, Nina Terentieva, Mietta Sighele, Veriano Luchetti, Diane Zola and Gloria Borelli.
Was a guest soloist at the Mariinsky Theatre from 2013 to 2023, where she made her debut as Fenena in Verdi’s Nabucco. Joined the Mariinsky Opera Company in January 2024.

Has sung at the premiere of the Mariinsky Theatre’s production of Lolita (2020).
Her repertoire also includes: Vanya (A Life for the Tsar), Lel (The Snow Maiden), Olga (Eugene Onegin), Nenila (The Enchantress), Mother Superior and Fortune-teller (The Fiery Angel), Maddalena (Rigoletto), Ulrica (Un ballo in maschera), Third Lady (Die Zauberflöte), Third Nymph (Dvořák’s Rusalka), mezzo-soprano part in Verdi’s Requiem.
She portrayed Carmen in Tokyo, Sapporo and Kyoto in 2011. The same year Mairam sang the part of Death in Stravinsky’s Le Rossignol (Le Rossignol et autres fables staged by Robert Lepage) at the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, while in 2012 there came the role of the Young Boy in The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevroniya.
In 2013 she performed the part of Konchakovna (Prince Igor) followed in 2014 by the roles of Azucena (Il trovatore at venues in France (Limoges and Reims)), Lyubasha (The Tsar’s Bride at the festival Stars of the Mariinsky Theatre in Samara) and Venus (Tannhäuser staged by Timofey Kulyabin at the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre). In 2018 she sang in the premiere of Alexander Raskatov’s opera GerMANIA, based on Heiner Müller’s works, at the Opéra de Lyon (Dame 3, Frau Kilian). Also appeared at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, the Latvian National Opera, Paris’ Théâtre du Châtelet and Moscow’s Helikon-Opera.
