Anna Markarova was born in Rostov-on-Don.  She graduated from the Rostov State Rachmaninoff Conservatoire (class of Professor Margarita Khudoverdova). Trained at the Stuttgart Akademie under Professor Ingeborg Wamser.
Between 1999 and 2006, Anna was a soloist at the Rostov State Musical Theater. In 2006 she was accepted into the Mariinsky Academy of Young Opera Singers. Next year she made her Mariinsky theatre debut as Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia. In 2010 Anna joined the Mariinsky Opera Company.

The singer’s concert repertoire includes the soprano roles in Verdi’s Requiem, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Mahler’s Eighth Symphony, Rossini’s Stabat Mater and Orff’s Carmina Burana.

Anna Markarova has toured with the Mariinsky Opera Company throughout Russia and abroad. Regularly performs at the Moscow Easter Festival and at the Stars of the White Nights music festival.

She has appeared at Symphony Hall in Birmingham, the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Philharmonic Hall in Dublin, the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, the Gulbenkian Centre in Lisbon and in various towns throughout France, Spain, Switzerland, Finland and Austria.

Under the baton of Valery Gergiev she has appeared at the  Red Sea Festival in Israel as Marina Mnishek (Boris Godunov), Santuzza (Cavalleria rusticana in concert) and Cassandre and Didon (Les Troyens).
In December 2010 together with Ildar Abdrazakov she appeared in a recording of Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Attila for the Mariinsky label (conducted by Valery Gergiev).
