Bakuri Kalichava was born in 2003 in St Petersburg. From 2023 to 2024 he studied at the Faculty of Arts of St Petersburg State University (class of Grayr Khanedanian). Since 2024 he has been a student at the Rimsky-Korsakov St Petersburg State Conservatory (class of Vladimir Vaneyev).

From December 2021 to February 2026 Bakuri Kalichava was a soloist with the Mariinsky Academy of Young Opera Singers. He made his Mariinsky Theatre debut in 2022 at a gala concert celebrating the anniversary of Larisa Gergieva, held at the theatre’s branch in the Republic of North Ossetia–Alania. In 2023 the artist appeared in a Mariinsky production for the first time, performing the title role in Prokofiev’s The Giant on a St Petersburg stage of the theatre.
Since March 2026 he has been a soloist with the Mariinsky Opera Company.

In September 2024 Bakuri Kalichava took part in the concert Young Voices of the Bolshoi and Mariinsky Theatres, marking the opening of the season at the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia.

In 2025 he performed the role of Chub in a concert version of Cherevichki – as part of the international festival Tchaikovsky. Reload – at St Petersburg’s Hermitage Theatre.
