Maria Veretenina was born in Estonia. She began her professional music education at the Georg Ots Music College in Tallinn and continued her studies at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, graduating with a master’s degree in 2010. From 2009-2010, she studied at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome (class of Rebecca Berg). She has also participated in a number of master-classes, particularly with Montserrat Caballé, Wilma Vernocchio, Ingrid Kremling, Maria Acda, Larissa Gergieva and Laura Delcampe among others.
In 2011, Maria Veretenina made her debut at the Finnish National Opera, sharing the stage with Matti Salminen. Currently, Maria Veretenina lives in the United Kingdom. She has been steadily engaged in numerous performances both in the UK and abroad (Sweden, Finland, Russia, Italy, Spain, Austria, Hungary and Germany). She has sung at many music venues including the Grand Hall of the St Petersburg Philharmonia, the Wiener Kammeroper, the Royal College of Music, the Zaragoza Concert Hall, the Astrakhan Philharmonia and the Estonian National Opera. She has participated in the projects of the BBC London, the Estonian radio and TV and the TV Channel Culture (Russia).
In July 2017, she performed at the Russian Charity Ball in London and received a medal, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the holy martyr Platon’s episcopal consecration. Maria Veretenina has taken part in numerous international competitions and has won many awards. She got the 1st prize and a special prize at the Hendrik Krumm Young Singers Contest in Kuressaare (Estonia, 2006), the 1st prize at the International Isabella Yurieva Competition of Russian Romance Singers in Tallinn (2006), the 1st prize at the Baltic International Competition of Folk and Academic Song for Young Singers (2009) и the 3rd prize at the Klaudia Taev International Competition of Opera Singers in Pärnu (2009). In 2014 she became the Grand Prix winner at the London Song Festival at the Royal College of Music and in 2018, she won the 1st prize at the festival-competition European Romance in Hamburg, after which she received an invitation to perform at the Grand Kremlin Palace in Moscow.
Maria Veretenina’s repertoire is extensive and includes the roles of Amina (La sonnambula), Micaëla (Carmen), Norina (Don Pasquale),Cleopatra (Giulio Cesare), the Queen of the Night (Die Zauberfloete), Fiordiligi and Despina (Così fan tutte), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Olympia and Antonia (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), Liu (Turandot), Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi), Musetta (La Boheme), Violetta (La Traviata), Marfa (The Tsar’s Bride), Xenia (Boris Godunov) and Tatiana (Eugene Onegin) among others.
