The internationally acclaimed Croatian soprano Lana Kos has captivated audiences worldwide with her commanding stage presence, striking beauty and an opulent voice spanning three octaves. A true operatic sensation, she made a stunning debut at just 17 years old as the Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte, and since then she has conquered the world’s most prestigious stages.
Kos has graced renowned opera houses, including the Teatro Massimo di Palermo, the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genova, the Teatro Lirico in Cagliari, the Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania, the Teatro Verdi di Trieste, the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, the Teatro Petruzzelli di Bari, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm, the Theatro Municipal de São Paulo (Brazil), the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, the Guangzhou Opera House, and has been a standout performer at legendary festivals such as Arena di Verona, the Festival Puccini in Torre del Lago (Italy), the Savonlinna Opera Festival (Finland) and the Macao International Music Festival.
The 2023–24 season saw Kos shine in Manon Lescaut at the Teatro Verdi di Trieste and the Teatro Comunale di Bologna. Upcoming engagements in the 2024–25 season include her anticipated performances as Cio-Cio-San in Madama Butterfly at the Spring Festival in Tokyo and as Desdemona in Otello at the Teatro Massimo Bellini. In the 2022–23 season she enchanted audiences in Il trovatore at the Japan Opera Festival (Tokyo), in La traviata at the Teatre Principal de Palma (Mallorca, Spain), in Turandot (Liù) at the Taormina Opera Festival (Italy), and took on new challenges with her debut as Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus and the title role in Tosca.
Kos made history as the youngest soloist ever appointed at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, where she signed a four-year contract in 2006. During her tenure she showcased her versatility across multiple languages and collaborated with some of the world’s most esteemed conductors, including Kirill Petrenko, Daniele Gatti, Kent Nagano, Marco Armiliato, Nicola Luisotti, James Conlon, Fabio Luisi and Daniel Oren.
A defining moment in her career came with her breathtaking debut as Violetta Valéry in La traviata at the Arena di Verona, first under the baton of Carlo Rizzi and later in Hugo de Ana’s production conducted by Andrea Battistoni.
Kos is celebrated for her iconic interpretations of Violetta Valéry (La traviata), Alice Ford (Falstaff), Mimì (La bohème) and leading roles in Roméo et Juliette, Lucia di Lammermoor, Luisa Miller, La rondine (Magda), as well as powerhouse roles such as Manon Lescaut, Micaëla (Carmen), Desdemona (Otello), Leonora (Il trovatore), Liù (Turandot) and Tatiana (Eugene Onegin). Looking ahead, she will make highly anticipated debuts in the title role in Dvořák’s Rusalka and as Nedda in Pagliacci in future seasons.
The singer made her Mariinsky Theatre debut in 2025, appearing in Madama Butterfly.
