There came, finally, a pleasant discovery in Alexander Mikhailov (whom Valery Gergiev had not previously brought to Moscow), a young tenor with a sound middle register and soaring high notes: his Faust is a creation that is pleasing not just in vocal terms but because of its stylistic finish as well.

Alexander Mikhailov was born in Murmansk in 1990. In 2009 he graduated from the Choral Conducting Faculty of the Murmansk College of Arts (class of Larisa Filatova), and in 2014 he graduated from the Faculty of Vocal Studies and Directing of the Rimsky-Korsakov St Petersburg State Conservatory (class of Valentina Gagen).
Made his debut at the Mariinsky Theatre in 2014 in Hector Berlioz’ Les Troyens.
Since 2016 Alexander Mikhailov has been a member of the Mariinsky Opera.
In 2016–2018 he was a fellow of the Atkins Young Artists Program at the Mariinsky Theatre.
