Aglaya Shuplyakova was born in St Petersburg. She graduated from the Middle Specialised School of Music of the St Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire (class of Mikhail Kraitz) and later, in 2001, from the St Petersburg Conservatoire itself (class of Professor Gleb Nikitin). The flautist has been a prize-winner at the International Woodwind Performers’ Competition in Moscow (2nd prize, 1994) and the Concertino Prague international young classical musicians’ competition (Czech Republic, 2nd prize, 1996). Moreover, in 1997 while still a student at the conservatoire, Aglaya Shuplyakova was awarded the title of winner of the Muse of St Petersburg grant competition. As an ensemble player she has appeared at the finest concert venues in St Petersburg, Moscow and Portugal. Since 2000 she has been a soloist and artiste with the Mariinsky Orchestra.
