Violin, viola
Sergei Filchenko was born in St Petersburg in a musical family. At the age of four he began to study the violin. Graduated from the St Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire. In 1990 he began to collaborate as a violinist and violist with the ensemble Musica Petropolitana, which performs music of the 17th-19th centuries in the authentic style on historic instruments. At the same time, he began to play the baroque violin under Marie Leonhardt. In 1993 together with the orchestra Musica Petropolitana he won 1st prize at the International Unico Wilhelm van Wassenaer Competition in Amsterdam. Has been awarded honorary diplomas at international violin competitions in Bruges (1996) and Amsterdam (1997). In 1995 he received the special prize "For the best interpretation" at the International Pietro Antonio Locatelli Violin Competition in Amsterdam. In 1999 he became a violinist with the Pleyel-Trio St Petersburg ensemble. Since 2003 he has been concert-master of the Pratum Integrum orchestra. Has collaborated with Sigiswald Kuijken and Trevor Pinnock and has conducted master-classes in Great Britain, Italy, Germany and the USA. Since 2011 he has been a guest professor at the University of Harvard.
