Alexei Krasheninnikov was born in Alma-Ata (now Almaty), Kazakhstan, in 1976 and has lived in St Petersburg since 1990. Graduated from the Rimsky-Korsakov St Petersburg State Conservatory in 2004 as a violinist under Professor Alexander Stang and in 2011 as a composer under Professor Alexander Mnatsakanyan.
Since 1999 he has been a member of the Mariinsky Orchestra. In addition to his orchestral work, Alexei Krasheninnikov performs regularly at the theatre’s chamber venues, often presenting his own compositions. He is a member of the St Petersburg and Russian unions of composers, winner of 1st prize at the A.P. Petrov All-Russian Composers’ Competition (St Petersburg, 2012), 1st prize at the AVANTI! All-Russian Composers’ Competition (Moscow, 2020) and 2nd prize at the Rachmaninoff International Competition for Pianists, Composers and Conductors (Moscow, 2025).
His works include the operas-dramas The Cursed Days (2015) and The Third Map (2021); for orchestra – the vocal-symphonic poem Tskhinval (2009), the symphonic sketch Of Your Words and Stars and the Symphony (2011), the ballad White Night (2012), the Popular Suite (2014), Territorio de Tango for cello and strings (2017) and the Concerti for clarinet and strings (2006), for violin and percussion (2007), for saxophone (2022); The Seasons for chamber orchestra (2019). For ensembles – three string quartets (1998, 2012, 2021), Nosata for children’s violin and piano (2021), The Angel at the Lord’s Tomb and the piano quintet Ludwig (2022). Among his choral and vocal works are Requiem aeternam (2017), Running Ahead of Oneself and Veni Sancte Spiritus! for violin and loop station (2020), the cycle Do You Know, Yulka… for mezzo-soprano and piano (2015), Forgotten Verses from the Garden of Buff for reciter and chamber ensemble (2016), And We Rejoice! for ensemble and mime actor (2021) among others.
