Pavel Sedov


Violin

Pavel Sedov was born in 1976 in Moscow in a musical family. He studied music at the School of the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatoire and the Conservatoire itself under the tutelage of Viktor Tretyakov. Under the latter’s guidance, he later continued a  post-graduate study.

In 1984 he made his debut as a  violinist at the Small Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire.
He became the first violinist in Russia to perform the role of the descant in George Crumb’s vocal cycle Ancient Voices of Children together with the Bolshoi Theatre Ensemble of Soloists under the baton of Alexander Lazarev (the cycle was recorded by Melodia in 1985).
Has toured abroad since 1985, travelling to Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, Italy, France, Great Britain, Belgium, Turkey, Kuwait, Israel, South Korea and Indonesia.

At the personal invitation of Yehudi Menuhin he attended his school in London where he trained under the maestro. Has taken part in master classes given by Dmitry Sitkovetsky, Felix Andrievsky and Viktor Pikaizen, People’s Artist of Russia.

He was one of the first grant-recipients and prize-winners of the  New Names international charitable programme. Has taken part in  New Names presentation programmes at NATO headquarters in Brussels, St James’ Palace in London in the presence of HRH Prince Michael of Kent, the Russian State Duma, Russian Army Headquarters and the Russian Ministry of Defence. He has received personal thanks from academic Dmitry Likhachev, the Grand Duchess Leonida Georgievna and Russian Minister of Culture Nikolai Gubenko.
On several occasions he has taken part in State concerts including one to mark forty-five years since the founding of the United Nations Organisation at the Kremlin Palace of Congresses. Has an extensive discography.

Since 1995 Pavel Sedov has been in the UNESCO Golden Book New Names of the Planet: the 20th Century to the 21st Century. Since 1999 he has worked with the International Union of Musicians directed by Irina Arkhipova. Since 2000 he has been a  regular participant at the  Sheremetev Seasons annual music festival at the theatre on the Ostankino Estate in Moscow, where he performs themed programmes. In 2001 he initiated and organised an international festival to commemorate one century since the birth of Jascha Heifetz, as part of which he gave the first Russian performances of a  series of works written for Heifetz as well as the Russian premiere (in Kazan) of Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s Violin Concerto No 2, I profeti, which is dedicated to Heifetz.

In 2002 at the Moscow Conservatoire Pavel Sedov defended his dissertation entitled The Art of Jascha Heifetz in the Context of Music Performance Culture in the 20th Century. Has taught at the Moscow State Conservatoire since 2003.

In addition to touring and recitals he also teaches and coaches in Russia and abroad.
In 2007 he took part in the festival From Russia to Indonesia with Love which was held in Jakarta.
In 2008 and 2009 together with the Moscow City Government’s programme Open Stage, he organised a  series of concerts entitled Musical Dialogues: Connections between the Ages and Generations, which was held at the Rachmaninoff Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire.
He is currently a  senior lecturer at the Moscow Conservatoire and the Moscow State Schnittke Institute of Music.
