Vadim Repin was born in Novosibirsk in 1971. He began to play the violin at the age of five under the tutelage Zakhar Bron, making his first stage appearance half a year later. In 1982 Vadim won the Gold Medal at the Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition (Poznań) and made his debuts in Moscow and Leningrad; in 1985 he toured to Tokyo, Munich, Berlin and Helsinki, making his debut at Carnegie Hall in New York one year later. In 1989 the musician was the youngest ever winner of the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels, twenty years later becoming a member of its jury.

Has collaborated with Martha Argerich, Cecilia Bartoli, Nikolai Lugansky, Evgeny Kissin, Mischa Maisky and Lang Lang. Has appeared with major orchestras in Austria, Great Britain, Germany, Hong Kong, Israel, Italy, Canada, the Netherlands, Russia, the USA and France, performing under such conductors as Valery Gergiev, Vladimir Ashkenazi, Yuri Bashmet, Semyon Bychkov, Daniele Gatti, Mikhail Pletnev, Charles Dutoit, James Conlon, Alexander Lazarev, James Levine, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Kent Nagano, Kirill Petrenko, Sir Simon Rattle, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Vladimir Spivakov, Yuri Temirkanov, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Myung-whun Chung, Riccardo Chailly, Vladimir Jurowski, Mariss Jansons, Neeme Järvi and Paavo Järvi among others.

Vadim Repin founded and is Artistic Director of the Trans-Siberian Art Festival which took place for the first time in 2014 in Novosibirsk; since then festival events have also been held in other Russian cities (Moscow, St Petersburg, Krasnoyarsk, Yekaterinburg, Tyumen and Samara), as well as in France, Israel, the USA, Belgium, Great Britain and Japan.

The musician has been the first to perform numerous works by Sofia Gubaidulina, Sir James Macmillan, Benjamin Yusupov and Lera Auerbach. He is a regular participant in festivals in Moscow, St Petersburg, Novosibirsk, London, Salzburg, Tanglewood, Highland Park, Gstaad, Rheingau, Verbier, Dubrovnik, Menton and Cortona.

Vadim Repin’s discography includes over thirty CDs, many of which have received such recognition as an ECHO Award, Diapason d’Or, Prix Caecilia and Edison Award.

In 2010 he won France’s national Victoires de la musique classique prize as well as the title of Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.

Performs the Antonio Stradivarius’ “Rode” violin (1733).
