Andrea Secchi was born in Colle Val d’Elsa (Siena) and started to study music at the age of five. In 1994 he graduated from the Conservatory of Florence (class of Giorgio Sacchetti). He has attended the master-classes of Paul Badura-Skoda, Joaquín Achucarro and Maurizio Pollini at the Chigiana Academy of Music in Siena. He has been a student of Andrea Lucchesini at the Musical Academy of Pinerolo in Torino and studied conducting with Piero Bellugi.
Andrea Secchi has performed many concerts in Torino, Siena, Florence, Rome, Palermo, Dublin, London, Münich, Kiel, Cracow, Beijing, Pretoria and Tokyo as well as at the Beethoven Haus in Bonn and the Chopin Museum in Warsaw. He has won over twenty national and international competitions, obtaining special awards for the best interpretation of music by Bach, Mozart, Schubert, Schoenberg and Beethoven. In 2003, he was named the best Italian competitor at the Leeds International Pianoforte Competition and made his debut at Salle Cortot in Paris. From 2002-2006, he was a member of Accademia Quartet.
From 2005-2013 he was the 2nd Chorus Master at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, a role which has given him a chance to collaborate with many renowned conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Seiji Ozawa, Lorin Maazel, Kurt Masur, Riccardo Chailly, Daniel Oren, Semyon Bychkov and Gianandrea Noseda. He has also worked at the Wiener Staatsoper and at the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet in Oslo. After a first collaboration with the Teatro Regio during the 2012-2013 season, in February 2018 he became the Chorus Master of the Regio’s Chorus.
