Giorgio Barberio Corsetti established his first company, La Gaia Scienza, in 1976. 1984 saw the birth of the Compagnia teatrale Giorgio Barberio Corsetti, which in 2001 became known as Fattore K. In his productions, Corsetti uses a broad range of various elements of stage expression and makes frequent use of video graphics. The stage director frequently turns to works by Kafka. He has staged productions of Beschreibung eines Kampfes, Amerika, Das Schloss and Der Process, which was awarded the Ubu Prize in 1999. In 1999 Corsetti was appointed Artistic Director of the theatre division of Venice’s biennale. In 2002 Fattore K staged a new project – Metamorfosi – festival di confine tra teatro e circo, a circus and theatre festival organised with the support of the city of Rome. For many years Corsetti has worked as an opera director. His first opera production was Maria di Rohan at the Teatro la Fenice (1999). This was followed by the diptych of La Voix humaine and Erwartung in Palermo, La Bohème in Messina, Tosca in Florence, Bakalov’s Stabat mater in Rome and Turandot at La Scala. At the Théâtre du Châtelet Corsetti has staged Gualtiero Dazzi’s Le Luthier de Venise (2004), Rossini’s La pietra del paragone (2007) and Pop’pea, an interpretation of Monteverdi’s opera L’incoronazione di Poppea using video materials and elements of pop culture (2012).
