2015 marks twenty-five years of the artistic career of Nikolai Gassiev, Honoured Artist of Russia. A favourite performer of the Mariinsky Opera, in 1994 Gassiev was acclaimed as performer of the year by a jury, while in 1996 and 1998 for his performances of roles in Prince Igor and Betrothal in a Monastery he received Grammy awards. Since 1997 Nikolai Gassiev has appeared as a guest soloist with the Metropolitan Opera (New York), La Scala (Milan), the Opéra Bastille (Paris) and the Los Angeles and San Francisco Operas.
The singer has appeared in recordings of the operas Betrothal in a Monastery, The Gambler, The Tsar’s Bride, The Maid of Pskov and Khovanshchina (Philips Classics).
Nikolai Gassiev’s repertoire includes one hundred and twenty-four roles in which the singer never fails to demonstrate the richness of his virtuoso vocal and acting skills, agility, humour, expressive dramatic imagery and unique creative approach. Each new work undertaken by Gassiev is an example in the performing arts. He has the ability to find shades and colours that are unique to him alone. The combination of his strong stage presence, great performance professionalism, dramatic gifts and dazzling acting skills mean that Gassiev will always stand out, no matter the role.
