On 14 November the Concert Hall will host the fiftieth birthday celebrations of Dmitry Yefimov, a teacher at the St Petersburg Conservatoire, concert-master at the Mariinsky Theatre and prize-winner at the International Franz Liszt Piano Competition in Parma. The programme for the evening includes duets and arias from operas by Rimsky-Korsakov, Gounod and Verdi.
Leading Mariinsky Opera soloists Anastasia Kalagina, Olga Savova, Olga Sergeyeva, Olga Trifonova, Viktoria Yastrebova, Yevgeny Akimov, Mikhail Vekua, Mikhail Petrenko and Edem Umerov will show their love and admiration for the pianist at the performance. The piano will be performed by Dmitry Yefimov himself.
As a soloist and concert-master Dmitry Yefimov has appeared in Russia, Germany, Italy and the USA. In 1994 Audiophile Classics released two discs of piano sonatas by Beethoven and a disc of piano works by Liszt performed by Yefimov. In 2006 Dmitry Yefimov and Olga Borodina (whose accompanist he has been since 1995) recorded the concert series Music in Palaces.
