This year the first European concerts by Valery Gergiev and the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, of which the maestro has been director since the start of the current season, will run from 12 to 17 January. The programme for the performance on 12 January in Munich includes Claude Debussy’s Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune, Shostakovich’s Second Violin Concerto and Hector Berlioz’ Symphonie fantastique. The solo in the Shostakovich concerto will be performed by Dutch violinist Janine Jansen. The orchestra will perform the same programme in Madrid on 15 January.
On 16 January in Madrid and on 17 January in Barcelona there will be performances of the Introduction to Richard Wagner’s opera Lohengrin, Alexander Scriabin’s Le Poème de l’extase and Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Sixth Symphony.
The next series of concerts by Valery Gergiev and the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra is planned for late May and early April 2016.
