In late June, visitors to the Mariinsky Theatre will have two opportunities to hear Plácido Domingo – and another to see him making his conducting debut with the Mariinsky Theatre's production of Samson et Dalila. A long-standing friend of Valery Gergiev and of the Mariinsky Theatre, maestro Domingo has frequently participated in the Stars of the White Nights festival both as a singer and as a conductor.
On 25 June at the Mariinsky-II, the celebrated Spanish singer will be performing the title role in Simon Boccanegra by Giuseppe Verdi. His partners in that performance will be Tatiana Serjan (Amelia), Yuri Vorobiev (Fiesco), Roman Burdenko (Albiani) and Otar Jorjikia (Adorno).
On 28 June Plácido Domingo will be taking to the conductor's stand for Camille Saint-Saëns' opera Samson et Dalila. He will be conducting this opera at the Mariinsky Theatre for the first time; previously he has conducted Aida, La traviata and Die Walküre here. The title roles on that evening are to be sung by Ekaterina Semenchuk and Ivan Gyngazov.
On 30 June St Petersburg audiences may look forward to Zarzuela with Plácido Domingo – a theatrical evening with specially selected vocal pieces. The Mariinsky Orchestra will be led by Spanish conductor Jordi Bernàcer.
Please note that tickets for all three evenings are name-specific and may be purchased exclusively on the Mariinsky Theatre's website and from the theatre's own box-offices.
