A prize-winner at prestigious international competitions – the Ferruccio Busoni Competition in Bolzano, the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels, the Frédéric Chopin Competition in Warsaw and the Geneva International Competition of Performers – Dmitry Shishkin has long been known to music-lovers throughout the world. Last summer the pianist confirmed his status, taking second place at the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition.
The festival affords the opportunity to see the bold manner of the pianist's style, his refined taste, precise and, at the same moment, free collaboration with the orchestra. The programme includes Camille Saint-Saëns' Second Piano Concerto, one of the most frequently performed works by the composer in this genre.
The evening will also see a performance of George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. Dmitry Shishkin's place at the piano will be taken by Konstantin Shamray, recipient of the 1st prize and six special prizes at the International Piano Competition in Sidney. Both pianists will be accompanied by the Mariinsky Orchestra under Misha Damev.
